Comments:

Recently, some very fine Fire Opal gems have been coming out of Ethiopia. This stone has a strong "Contra Luz" effect which is a vibrant multi-color flash that appears like "rainbows" within the gem when it is backlit. The term "Contra Luz" translates to "against the light" in Spanish, and only a very small percentage of Opals show this effect. The quantity of these Ethiopian stones certainly seems to be limited, and fine quality gems are few and far between.

Comments:

This gem has some of the best color flash that I have seen from a 1 carat Mexican Opal. The essentially colorless background hosts a FULL spectrum of color when backlit. Gems like this are special and without out a doubt difficult to obtain these days. Less than 1% of all the Opals in northern Mexico are this quality
