Smithsonite

Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Specimen Size: 6.4 x 3.1 x 2.1 cm (small cabinet)
Largest Smithsonite: 1.5 cm.

ex.  Rob Smith

Here we have some excellent, gemmy Smithsonite rhombs with sharp, well-defined faces and a lovely golden-bronze color on the exterior. You can see that the inside of the crystals is essentially white/colorless, producing a beautiful two-tone effect. The crystals are sitting on minor matrix, and most of them are essentially damage free.

Smithsonite (var: "Cobaltoan")

Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Specimen Size: 15.3 x 10.5 x 8.2 cm (large cabinet)

ex.  Rob Smith

This piece is a stunning two-sided display specimen consisting of gorgeous bright pink color, sharp, lustrous, gem/gemmy scalenohedra of Cobaltoan Smithsonite on matrix. A great large cabinet size specimen and easily displayable from either side, and I think it's very reasonably priced compared to most pieces on today's market of this size.

Smithsonite

Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Specimen Size: 3.2 x 2.5 x 2.3 cm (miniature)
Largest Smithsonite: 1.7 cm.

ex.  Rob Smith

A real smoker of a Smithsonite thumbnail (it does fit into a perky box) consisting of highly aesthetic, sharp, stacked, gemmy yellow scalenohedra sitting on just the right amount of matrix. This is definitely one of my favorite pieces in the update due to its tasteful configuration and excellent overall quality. You do not see many Smithsonite thumbnails with the slender scalenohedra like this, so don?t miss out on this beauty.

Smithsonite

Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Specimen Size: 8.7 x 6.8 x 5.0 cm (small cabinet)
Largest Smithsonite: 1.0 cm.

ex.  Rob Smith

This is a less commonly seen "style" and color for Tsumeb Smithsonite as the scalenohedrons have a gorgeous silky bronze color and somewhat of a phantom appearance. They are rather gemmy and sharp with an attractive pearly luster on Galena matrix. There are many Smithsonites in this update, but this one really stands out for me, and looks better than it appears in the photos.

Smithsonite

Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Specimen Size: 8.8 x 8.2 x 5.7 cm (small cabinet)
Largest Smithsonite: 9.0 mm.

ex.  Rob Smith

Amazingly enough, every Smithsonite in this update is unique and different from one another. I think that each piece is very attractive, and all of them would make for great additions to any Tsumeb collection. This particular specimen is comprised of hundreds of sharp, lustrous, gemmy Smithsonite crystals on both sides of this excellent and virtually undamaged display specimen. The color of the crystals ranges from colorless to yellowish to reddish-orange depending upon the location of the crystal on the specimen and whether or not it has some inclusions.

Smithsonite

Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Specimen Size: 5.1 x 4.1 x 3.2 cm (small cabinet)

ex.  Rob Smith

The wide spectrum of colors displayed in Tsumeb Smithsonites is truly impressive. This piece is a very nice miniature size specimen with a full coverage of greyish colored, translucent Smithsonite crystals on one side and a few scattered crystals on the back. The entire specimen is virtually crystallized all the way around, even though many of the crystals are micros. This piece would make a great addition to a Tsumeb Smithsonite suite.

Smithsonite

Locality: Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Specimen Size: 5.6 x 3.6 x 2.3 cm (small cabinet)
Largest Smithsonite crystal: 1.4 cm.

ex.  Rob Smith

This large miniature size Smithsonite features a few well-formed, gemmy, smoky-golden color scalenohedra on matrix. The overall quality is very good, with only minor peripheral damage, where it detached from the pocket wall. It almost seems that each Smithsonite pocket at Tsumeb was unique because of the tremendous diversity exhibited in the species with all of its variation of color and crystal habits.
