Microcline with Smoky Quartz and Albite

Locality: Lake George Area, Park County, Colorado

Specimen Size: 9.3 x 5.6 x 4.2 cm (small cabinet)

An attractive matrix display specimen featuring a few blocky crystals of very pale blue-green Microcline (probably not dark enough for what I would call Amazonite) associated with starkly contrasting Smoky Quartz and highlighted by snow white Albite (variety: "Cleavelandite"). The largest Microcline crystal measures 3.3 cm and the main Smoky Quartz group measures 3.6 cm long. The piece displays nicely, but the rightmost Microcline along with the termination of the Smoky Quartz are both contacted, so the piece is not 100% pristine.

A beautiful full-sized thumbnail specimen featuring a fantastic, complete, well-formed, rich blue-green colored prismatic Amazonite crystal beautifully flaring off of cream colored Feldspar matrix. There are a couple smaller "sidecar" crystals of Amazonite on the reverse side of the piece. No damage, with the exception of the bottom edge where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. ex.  Dave Bergman

This toenail sized group features a few sharp, well-formed, rich blue-green colored prismatic Amazonite crystals with unusually etched / altered reddish-brown sections on the terminations. This particular style is rarely seen in Amazonite, and makes for a lovely color contrast. Collected by my maternal grandfather, Dave Bergman in 1981, and it resided in his collection until very recently. Grandpa Dave is a retired Colorado miner, and was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s with my dad. This miniature sized specimen features a few sharp, well-formed, rich blue-green colored prismatic Amazonite crystals with unusually etched / altered reddish-brown sections on the terminations. The Amazonites are sitting on a matrix of crystallized white Albite (variety: "Cleavelandite") "rosettes". The terminations on the Amazonite crystals are rare in my experience, and makes for a lovely color contrast.
