A VERY rarely seen Ferberite twin on matrix from Tasna. Often, the Ferberites from Tasna are not found on matrix as they are heavy in nature and the brittleness of the species causes it to fall off the host rock in the blast during mining operations. This specimen is not only an impressive, and dramatically aesthetic matrix piece, but the Ferberite twin is DOUBLY TERMINATED, which is only seen in a very small percentage of pieces from Tasna.
I acquired this piece in early 2009, and when it arrived, it was completely filthy. I honestly believe that the layer of oxidation and dirt that covered the piece actually helped to preserve the quality of the twin, as it’s amazingly sharp, lustrous, smooth and incredibly well-formed. Only a small corner of the twin has a “rub” which keeps it from being completely perfect, but it’s more than forgivable considering that virtually every Ferberite from Tasna has some kind of imperfection. A few accenting blades of Ferberite and nearly micro Quartz crystals sit on the matrix to create this beautiful and three-dimensional display specimen. The quality is superb, and the piece truly looks better in person as Ferberite is a difficult species to accurately photograph. A more than worthwhile matrix Ferberite that would make a great addition to any collection.
