This specimen was collected in the early 1980’s, when Huanuni produced some really attractive Vivianite specimens. I acquired this piece from my father when I was about 15 years old, and it’s one of my favorite Vivianites from this mine for obvious reasons. The first is the sentimental value, but the second reason is the apparent quality.
The piece features an excellent, very sharp, GEM quality, highly lustrous, rich blue green, “sword”-shaped crystal with a beautiful termination with golden Siderite and aesthetically flaring off Pyrite matrix. A great quality piece from Huanuni, and certainly better quality than a lot of Vivianites from this mine from the standpoint of gemminess and color, plus the fact that it’s aesthetically sitting on matrix.
