Topaz on Quartz (GEM crystal)

Here we have a wonderfully aesthetic and fine quality matrix thumbnail specimen of Topaz on Quartz from Sakangyi in Mogok, Myanmar. Most Topaz crystals that you'll find from any locality around Mogok are loose singles with no matrix. This piece is one of only a select few Topaz crystals that I've had to offer on matrix, and the matrix itself is beautifully crystallized Quartz! If you are familiar with minerals of Myanmar, matrix specimens are not terribly common, so to have such a wonderful Topaz crystal on actual crystallized Quartz is a bigger deal than you might think.

The Topaz crystal is completely colorless, like ice, and is notably transparent (GEM QUALITY). The faces are highly lustrous, sharp and notably well-formed. The Quartz crystals have a very soft "smoky" hue, so they are easily distinguishable from the Topaz. The base of the Topaz crystal has an interesting slightly etched opening along its natural cleavage but managed to hold together. The piece is NOT repaired, and this line is simply a unique indicator of the activity that was taking place in the pocket while the crystal was forming.
