A fantastic miniature sized matrix display specimen of high quality, crystallized Gold from California. This piece originally belonged to my father, Richard Kosnar, and was actually given to him as a birthday present from my mother in 1981. Back then this was a really fine matrix specimen, and it has truly held up well against many others that have been found since. It features several freestanding, branching groups of well-crystallized Gold aesthetically flaring out of Quartz matrix. The fact that each section of Gold has a pleasing separation of Quartz makes for a very appealing effect which really catches the eye. The piece displays beautifully and when you look closely you can see a myriad of complex and stunning crystal habits.

Perhaps the most noteworthy are the narrow / elongated compressed octahedral crystals which have formed gorgeous “spear tip”-shaped crystals that are surrounded by thin elongated octahedra that almost have an arborescent appearance, like ferns leaves. One of the groups on the side has a gorgeous “fan”-shaped array of small repeating octahedral crystals creating a unique crystallization. Every millimeter of Gold is crystallized and when you view them with a loupe, it’s remarkably how diversified the crystallization is in a relatively small area. To top it off, the piece has a strong “gold” color, which really helps it stand out from the Quartz. Additionally, the luster of the crystals is certainly above average for the species. No repairs or restorations, just a really fine quality display specimen of classic California Gold.
