The Eagle mine is probably best known for its pyritohedral Pyrite specimens. This full thumbnail sized specimen is a great display piece of Eagle Mine Pyrite showing typical striated pyritohedra with sharp, very lustrous faces. It’s also nearly a “floater” as there is only a small point of attachment. At one point there were hundreds, if not thousands, of these specimens available and they are now seldom seen for sale like most classic minerals from Colorado.
This piece would make a great addition to any Colorado mineral suite. Good, crystallized Pyrites from this locality are among the best from Colorado and highly sought after by collectors. The Eagle Mine was the center of lead and zinc mining in Colorado for a time and produced some of the state’s most memorable mineral specimens, along with the neighboring Groundhog Mine that produced the finest Wire Gold specimens in the world extant.
