This piece was collected in 1974 by my grandfather, Dave Bergman, and was part of my father’s collection for over 20 years and then came to me. The piece features vitreous, tightly intergrown rhombs of soft orange-pink iron and manganese bearing Dolomite (approaching Kutnohorite chemically) which are associated with a few sharp, lustrous, gemmy colorless Quartz crystals on matrix. I’ve never seen a Dolomite quite like this from the Camp Bird Mine, and the fact that it passed through three generations of my family makes it even more special to me on a personal level.

The famous Camp Bird Mine, which started operating in 1896, produced over 5 million Troy ounces of Gold and Silver combined in nearly a century. This locality not only produced native metals, with literally thousands of beautiful, crystallized display specimens, including some of the best sulfides from Colorado, but it also produced some wonderful non-metallic specimens.
