This piece hosts one of the largest individual crystals of Fluorite that I have seen from the Sunnyside Mine! Typically, the Fluorites from this locality show either octahedral, dodecahedral or even tetrahexahedral habits, but large cubes are not terribly common. This piece has a great mix of pastel lilac and charming emerald green hues in the translucent, sharp, well-formed crystals. The display side is in amazingly good condition, and as you can see from the photos, the piece is big, certainly bigger than the vast majority of Sunnyside Fluorite specimens ever found. The specimen is pure Fluorite, no matrix or associated minerals, and it really glows when backlit. The back left corner of the main crystal is NOT cleaved, but actually recrystallized, which is impressive for a piece of this size. This is an excellent opportunity to pick up a large cabinet display specimen of a colorful mineral from one of Colorado’s most classic localities (now defunct) for a price that will not break the bank. If you are a San Juan mineral collector, you’ll know that good specimens from the Sunnyside Mine are lacking on the market these days, especially large attractive Fluorite specimens like this one.
