Goethite on Quartz (var: Smoky and Amethyst)

An aesthetic and well-balanced specimen from one of the most storied and well-known districts in Colorado. The pegmatites near the Lake George area of Colorado have produced what most collectors and dealers consider to be some of the finest crystallized Goethite specimens from the standpoint of superb color, top quality, large crystals, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations.

This particular specimen is a great display piece featuring good quality, sharp, lustrous, golden-black "blades" of Goethite forming beautiful crystallized "sprays" flaring off the side of a very sharp, lustrous, gemmy, well-formed, hexagonal deeply colored crystal of Smoky Quartz. It should be noted that the tip of the Quartz crystal is actually purple Amethyst(!), which is not common in my experience with these particular pieces. The quality is good for Goethite from the area, and the piece is crystallized all the way around save the bottom where it detached from the pocket. It’s rather uncommon to find crystallized Goethite ON Smoky Quartz like this from any world locality.
