This is a superb specimen from one of the most storied and well-known districts in Colorado. The pegmatites near the Lake George area of Colorado have produced what most collectors and dealers consider to be some of the finest crystallized Goethite specimens from the standpoint of superb color, top quality, large crystals, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations.
This particular specimen it is an outstanding display piece featuring top quality, sharp, lustrous, golden-black "blades" of Goethite forming a beautiful crystallized, multi-directional “mound” which is accented by very good sized, sharp, lustrous, gemmy purplish colored crystals of “Onegite” which is classified as Amethyst with Goethite inclusions. You can see the rich purple color along with the smoky color in the Quartz. The piece is crystallized all the way around save the bottom where it detached from the pocket. This piece was collected by my father in July of 1970. My dad told me this was the best one that he ever found of this material. Crystallized specimens like this are few and far between from Colorado.
