Isolated crystals of Vivianite on matrix from Tomokoni are notably hard to find, especially larger undamaged crystals like the one on this specimen. A razor-sharp, highly lustrous prism of Vivianite is lying in a semi-vug shaped indentation of the red altered sandstone matrix. The natural shape of the host rock is what allowed such a good-sized crystal to form and remain protected during growth. Normally a crystal like this would have grown against the pocket wall on the other side, and we wouldn't see the shimmering luster and beautiful textbook form. When backlit from the side, the crystal shows a strong emerald green hue. No damage, and just plain showy. A wonderful "hand"-sized display specimen from a locality where they were few and far between.
