From a find at the end of 2017. Some of the most classic Chrysoberyl specimens in the world are those from the small state Espirito Santo in southeastern Brazil. These specimens exhibit some of the most recognized and celebrated crystal habits for Chrysoberyl extant in the form of beautiful "sixling" and "heart-shaped" twins.
This piece is a rather unusual twin that is actually a combination of two partial "sixling" twins which are growing along the prism of an elongated Chrysoberyl crystal to create a "star" or "cross-shaped" specimen. I've seen hundreds of Chrysoberyls from Espirito Santo over the years, but THIS one stands out as unique, as I have never seen a piece with this particular habit / form. The faces are lustrous and well-formed and the piece glows with a lively yellow-green hue when backlit.
We've done our best to photograph the piece from all sides to illustrate its distinctive shape. This one is certainly a one-of-a-kind specimen, and a great pickup for anybody who collects gem crystals, thumbnails, Brazilian minerals or interesting morphologies.
