Some of the finest quality crystals of Sapphire in the world are those from various localities in Sri Lanka. The combination of excellent sharp, euhedral crystals along with a beautiful range of colors puts them in the upper tiers for Sapphire crystals from anywhere.
This piece is a good quality, very sharp (not rounded or water worn), rather lustrous, well-formed, euhedral, hexagonal, striated, crystal with a soft yellow hue. The crystal is translucent for the most part, but certainly not opaque. No major damage anywhere, and it's nearly doubly terminated, were it not for a small bit of embedded matrix on the lower termination. If you collect gem crystals, thumbnails or you've always wanted a really good Sapphire crystal for your collection, this is a good piece for the price.
The crystal weighs 11.81 carats
