The famed Copper County of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is one of the great Copper deposits in the world and has produced inarguably the largest quantity of superbly well-crystallized specimens of the species ever found. It's not just crystallized Copper that makes this area so famous, as there are many other forms/styles of Copper that exist, including the rarely seen Copper replacements/pseudomorphs after Agate.
This matched set started out as single nodule of Agate that has been partially replaced on the exterior by Native Copper, enveloping the exterior. The nodule was then sliced in half and polished to reveal the beautiful internal shape of the Copper as it started to replace the thin banded layers of the Agate. These specimens are incredibly rare, and we've only seen a few of them over our combined decades of experience selling minerals.
If you're a fan of pseudomorphs, interesting thumbnails, minerals of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan or simply Copper, do not miss out on this incredibly hard to find set, the likes of which we probably will not have again anytime soon.
The total weight of the set is 28.88 carats.
