Fluorite (GEM QUALITY bi-color “floater”)

The famous Shangbao Mine in China has been the source of some of the most attractive Fluorite specimens from any locality in the entire country, which is really saying something considering the large amount of Fluorite that has come out of various Chinese localities over the last couple decades. The Shangbao specimens feature beautiful color combinations along with eye-catching crystal forms, and this piece is a great example.

This thumbnail sized specimen features sharp, lustrous, GEM QUALITY, bi-colored modified crystals with rich purple "cores" and light greenish-blue exteriors measuring up to 1.4 cm across, intergrown to create a showy and eye-catching piece. The specimen is essentially a complete "floater" as it was etched off the matrix and then fully re-crystallized ("re-healed"). I love that the center of the specimen was etched out, creating a Fluorite "donut" so to speak. The quality is superb, and the alluring combination of colors makes it desirable and unique specimen that would make a great addition to any Fluorite suite or a collection of Chinese minerals.
