This specimen is from a find from the mid-1990s at the famed Uchucchacua Mine in Peru. The piece hosts a handful of notably sharp, rather lustrous, metallic silvery colored trigonal crystals of Proustite that show an electric blood red color inside when strongly backlit. The largest crystal measures 6 mm, and they look fantastic with a good light behind them. Very beautiful up close! A wonderful miniature sized of this world famous "ruby silver" material.
Some of the best Proustites from South America are found at this mine, and pieces like this are truly impressive when you see such fine crystallization combined with the fact that it's a transparent sulfosalt! No real damage to speak of on the front/display side, but one of the Proustites has a small contact on the back where it was attached to the pocket wall.
