The Mahodari Quarry in India is quite famous for producing some of the most unique specimens of Fluorite in the world. There are many habits for Fluorite, often showing a combination of multiple isometric forms, but the Mahodari specimens are uniquely spherical, which is rarely seen in the species from anywhere. Additionally, the majority of the Mahodari Fluorites are some shade of yellow/golden (sometimes they're red due to iron oxide coatings), but this specimen features an incredibly hard to find PINK hue!
The piece hosts a gemmy, lilac-pink colored sphere of Fluorite measuring 2.6 cm across, sitting on Quartz crystals atop a thin layer of basalt matrix. A smaller secondary Fluorite sphere can be seen atop the larger sphere for a nice touch. This piece was mined in the 1980s and resided in our family collection for many years. I've seen a lot of mineral specimens from the Indian trap rock quarries over the years, but this one stands out as one of the most unique, eye-catching and special pieces we've had to offer. It's not just a fantastic Indian mineral specimen, but on a worldwide scale, it's a remarkable Fluorite. You'd be hard-pressed to find another like it, and if you collect worldwide Fluorites, do not miss out on this incredible, rare and beautiful piece for your collection.
