Citrine is well known in the gem world, but a large percentage of Citrine gems on the market have been heated to turn them yellow. Typically, these stones start out as natural Amethyst and are altered to create the yellow color. This practice is perfectly safe and accepted in the gem world, provided the buyer knows they are purchasing a heated stone.
This particular stone was more than likely an Amethyst that was heated to create the color. With that said, this stone is very good size, with great clarity (very slightly included) and a wonderful "Oval" cut. Very attractive in person, and certainly worth adding to a collection, or to be placed into a custom piece of jewelry. Additionally, Citrine (along with Topaz) is the birthstone for November so this gem could make a great birthday gift!
