Emerald with Quartz

When people think of Emeralds, the superb stones from Colombia are probably the first thing to come to mind. For many years however, there have been some excellent Emerald gems coming out of Bahia, Brazil. A few years ago, a good friend in Brazil brought us a parcel of these interesting and unique Emerald and Quartz combination stones. Sometimes crystals of Emerald are found frozen in Quartz and not fully crystallized, so the locals had a great idea to start faceting them into these unique gems with the Emerald and Quartz still together.

This "Emerald" cut stone has a nearly 50/50 split of translucent green Emerald and contrasting stark white Quartz. These are not terribly common and would make a great addition to any collection of "odd" or gems or a unique gift for someone with a May birthday since Emerald is the birthstone for that month.
