Opal (Cat's Eye)

A gorgeous Cat's Eye Opal from an undisclosed locality in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Typically, it is rather difficult to obtain fine Cat's Eye Opals from any locality over 1 carat with a sharp distinct "eye" like the one seen in this stone. Like all Cat's Eye gems, this stone has thin fibrous inclusions that reflect the light to create the thin white line or "eye" in the center of the stone. It takes skill to properly orient the rough so the "eye" sits evenly in the middle of the gem and doesn't float to one side or the other. This stone is a very rare, attractive, light straw yellow color Cat's Eye gem with a very distinct eye. A bright light source was used to show off the eye in the photos, but it clearly shows up in well in indoor lighting or in sunlight.

I have to say that this is one of the few cat's eye Opals I've seen in a while, especially from Brazil. They are not as common as one might think and this material doesn't get enough credit as people don't recognize how rare Cat's Eye Opals truly are.
