Opal is a fascinating gem as it's one of the few stones that looks just as attractive when it's crystal clear as it does when it's opaque. The numerous amounts of colors seen in Opals from around the world is what makes them so popular and special. It's amazing to think that Opal is essentially Quartz with water molecules in its chemical structure, and that's what causes the beautiful colors to form.
This "Oval Cabochon" cut gem is what is often called "Crystal Opal", with a translucent background hosting flashes of red, orange, gold, green, blue and purple. When this stone is strongly lit, it shows greatcolor and the stone is a solid Opal, not a doublet or a triplet, which means something in terms of value. Solid Opals are almost always worth more than comparable doublets or triplets in the gem world.
