Tourmaline

This Tourmaline stone has a lovely Trillion Brilliant cut with a unique "honey gold" color, which shows a bit of pleochroism with slight golden, orange, greenish and yellow hues. Interestingly, the gem shows different colors in different lighting, and even changes depending upon the angle which it is viewed!

The piece of rough for this stone was acquired by my father decades ago from Manuel Bettencourt Dias who brought back some excellent specimens from Alto Ligonha after fleeing Mozambique when the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) overthrew the government in the 1970s. It is nearly eye clean, (VERY very slightly included) and considering Tourmaline is classified as a "Type 3" gemstone, inclusions are almost always present and accepted by dealers and collectors, so when you find a nearly clean stone like this, it's a real treat.
