Tourmalines are one of the few gems that occur in natural bi-color or tri-color stones. This beautiful stone was cut from a crystal found nearly 40 years ago in Brazil. The stone shows a distinct pink color on one end, with a lively green color on the other end and a beautiful colorless thin "Achroite" zone in the middle. Actually, the green end of the stone shows two slightly different green hues, so technically you could call this a "quad-color?" Tourmaline.
This gem has a very slight amount of inclusions, which are difficult to see with the naked eye, but remember that Tourmaline is classified as a "Type 3" gemstone, as inclusions are almost always present, and accepted by dealers and collectors, so this stone is certainly above par for the material. This is a great NATURALLY occurring tri-color gem that would make for a wonderful piece of jewelry or even for a gift for somebody with an October birthday as Tourmaline, along with Opal, are the birthstones for that month.
